St. Edmunds Newsletter – May 2026

may-2026

As we enter the month of May, we are gently reminded of our special devotion to our Blessed Mother, who inspires us through her faith, love, and quiet strength. May is also a time when we celebrate Mother’s Day—a beautiful opportunity to thank God for the gift of mothers and the love they share so generously.

Our Grade 3 class will lead our school community in honouring our Blessed Mother with a whole-school Mass on May 6th. We are grateful to Ms. Oman and her students for the care and thought they are putting into this meaningful celebration.

On behalf of Fr. Steny, Fr. Jeevan, and all of our staff, we wish you a joyful and blessed Mother’s Day on May 10th. We hold in our prayers all mothers, grandmothers, and mother figures, and we give thanks for the many ways they nurture, guide, and love their families each day. May God’s grace and peace be with you always.

Prayer Requests:

  • Please keep members of our community who are ill in your prayers. May they feel God’s healing, comfort, and strength.
  • Our Grade 2 and Grade 7 students who have received the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Confirmation. Please keep them and their teachers in your prayers during this special time.

Praying for all Mothers:

Loving God,

We give thanks for the mothers you have placed in our lives,

whose love reflects Your own — steadfast, selfless, and enduring.

We are grateful, Lord, for the ways You fill a mother’s heart

with compassion, and for the instinct You have planted within her

to protect, guide, and nurture her children.

Thank You for the sacrifices mothers make each day,

for the lessons they impart, and the shelter they provide.

Bless all mothers with patience, wisdom, resilience, and joy.

Strengthen them to forgive as You forgive and help them

to lean on Your unfailing support.

May every mother be filled with Your peace and reminded

of Your unfailing love.

In Jesus’ name we pray,

Amen.

Sacraments

  • Thank you to our PAC, specifically our grade 1 and 5 class parents who hosted a beautiful reception for our Confirmation Class. We are also grateful to Ms. Paguntalan from the Pemberton Save-On Foods bakery department and the donation of the beautiful cake.
  • Let us continue to pray for the youth of our parish as they grow in the faith formation, and in particular to our students receiving the Sacrament of First Holy Communion – Sunday, May 3rd, 2:00 p.m.
    • Rehearsal on Thursday, April 30 at 7:00 p.m. (beginning in the small hall)

TBIRD Congratulations!

  • Edmund’s 2nd Badminton season was one filled with growth and plenty of successes to celebrate! Throughout the season, the students from Grade 6 & 7 learned more deeply about badminton and how success in the sport is about more than simply hitting the birdie. Both our Singles and Doubles teams competed with great effort and sportsmanship at the qualifying tournaments where we were proud to see our Grade 7 singles players Lily Oman and Stefan Xie represent our school in the CISVA Finals!
  • Gabrielle Aguirre who advanced from our School Spelling Bee and participated in the CISVA Spelling Final on April 27th at Holy Cross Elementary. We are extremely proud of her efforts! Bravo!
  • Our Readers Are Leaders team also pulled out all the stops competing in our Zonal Competition. The students were answering questions from the six books they have been reading this year. It was a very close competition and we are proud of our team demonstrating their cooperative skill and St. Edmund’s team spirit!
  • Congratulations to all our students who participated in the Royal Canadian Legion North Vancouver City Branch #118 Poster & Literary Contest – especially those who were awarded with a special certificate and Indigo gift cards for their winning submissions.

Fundraising & Walkathon

Thank you to all the families who generously contributed to our annual Walkathon!  We’re thrilled to share that we’ve reached our goal of $12,000. These funds will be used to purchase new iPads for our Learning Resource room, a sitting bench for the adventure playground and additional resources for our front courtyard, and our Arts and Athletics programs.

If you haven’t had a chance to donate yet and would still like to contribute, we gratefully welcome any additional support!  St Edmunds 2026 Walkathon | North Vancouver, BC

Heartfelt gratitude to our anonymous donor who generously supplied prizes for the student prize draw!

We would also like to thank our PAC parents and additional volunteers who organized our Hot Dog Lunch as a recognition for the children’s efforts in their walks around the neighbourhood.

PPP & extra volunteering:

Thank you to all the parent volunteers who are on time and assist daily with the safety of our children and community.  We still need volunteers.  If you need participation hours or are able to volunteer extra time, we would greatly appreciate it!  Please contact the school office.

A few reminders:

  • If your child cannot exit the car independently, please park nearby and walk.
  • Do not stop in fire zones.
  • Avoid blocking the crosswalk or creating unsafe traffic conditions.

Thanks as well to our Garden group for keeping our playground beautiful, safe and clean.  Your help make our school even more inviting!

Uniform Reminders & Updates:

  • Nail polish, coloutful hairbands/accessories are not a part of the school uniform. Please ensure that your child is following our uniform policy.
  • Lost & Found bin is getting full. Please ensure all articles of clothing are labelled with your child’s name.
  • Cambridge Uniforms requests that orders for next school year be done by June 15th to ensure that you receive your order by September.
