St. Edmunds Newsletter – Mar 2026
As we have begun the season of Lent, we have entered a meaningful time in our Church calendar when we have forty days to slow down, reflect, and prepare our hearts for Easter. Lent invites us to take a closer look at how we are living and to find simple, intentional ways to grow closer to God through prayer, small sacrifices (fasting), and caring for others (acts of charity).
This can be a beautiful opportunity for conversation with our children. How can we show a little more kindness? Where can we be more patient? What is one small change we can make that helps us focus less on distractions and more on what truly matters? Sometimes the most meaningful Lenten practices are also the simplest — putting away devices a little earlier, saying a family prayer together, checking in on a neighbour, or setting aside items at home to donate to someone in need.
At school, we will continue encouraging our students to notice God’s presence in their everyday lives through their friendships, their learning, and their acts of service. When we work together as families and as a school community, we help our children understand that faith is something we live each day in both big and small ways.
May this Lenten season be a time of renewal for your family. As we journey toward Easter, may our hearts be filled with hope, compassion, and a deeper awareness of God’s love.
Registration for 2026-2027 – due Friday March, March 6
On behalf of Fr. Steny and the PEC, I would like to thank those of you who fulfilled your commitment and attended our AGM on February 19th. We all feel blessed to be learning together and supporting each other in our community.
- Reminders:
- Take your “green forms” to the parish office for Fr. Steny to sign the pastor’s authorization for your Category 1 status.
- Refer to the checklist when completing your registration package to ensure you have read, signed and returned all necessary documents. Don’t forget to include a headshot of your child for the Emergency Release Form.
Praying for Others:
Lenten Prayers for the Seminarians – Your children have received mite boxes to help support our Seminarians. These young men, with God’s grace, will one day serve as priests in our Archdiocese. We ask that you continue to pray for them and for vocations. Lenten mite boxes can be returned after Easter.
Our Grade 2 and Grade 7 classes have begun preparing for the Sacraments of Reconciliation (April 22 after the Gr. 2 class mass), Holy Communion (May 3) and Confirmation (April 23). Please keep them and their teachers in your prayers during this special time in their faith formation.
Reminders: Uniforms
- Label all articles of your child’s clothing – thanks to those who even put labels in the kids shoes!
- Check lengths of tunics, skirts & skorts. Hemline should be no higher than 10 cm (4 inches) above the knee
- Long hair is to be tied up – neutral hair accessories – blue, black or school tartan colours.
Tbirds in Action
A big congratulations to all five of our T-Bird basketball teams, who competed hard and had a lot of fun this year! Every team got to experience the thrill of victory, and learned some valuable lessons for next season! Thanks to all of our coaches, scorekeepers, referees, and parent drivers! A special shout out goes to our junior boys team, who won the North Shore Zone and advanced to the CISVA playoffs!
As one sport ends, two more take its place: Badminton begins this week for grade 6/7 casual and competitive players, with the CISVA finals about two months away.
Our athletes aren’t the only ones performing, as our new Drama Club begins next week. The club is open to students in grades 6-7, culminating in a limited seating performance in May!
Spelling Bee: Students in Grades 4–7 are encouraged to join the Spelling Bee. Study guides were distributed last month. The St. Edmund’s Spelling Bee will take place on April 10th, with the winner advancing to the CISVA Spelling Bee on April 28th.
