Parent Committees

At St. Edmund’s Elementary, parent committees play an important role in school life, being involved in everything from school governance to community events. Here is a list of the main committees. Please see each individual tab for a more complete description of each committee.

Parish Education Committee (PEC) – The Parish Education Committee is a group of elected / appointed St. Edmund’s parents who work with the Principal and Pastor in the running of the school. They are responsible for ensuring that Archdiocesan policies are implemented, as well as for setting local policy.

Parent’s Association (PA) – All parents belong to the parents association, which is run by a committee of 18 members. This Parent Association Committee represents the parents of the St. Edmunds school community. It is comprised of various coordinators, plus the Class Parent Representatives.

Class Parents – For each grade, two mothers (or fathers) volunteer to be ‘class parents’. These class parents 1) act as representatives to the Parent’s Association, 2) coordinate their class event, and 3) provide information to the parents of that grade as necessary.

Emergency Parent Committee (EPC) – In consultation with the school principal, this parent committee determines priorities in preparing for and responding to a school emergency (such as an earthquake). Committee members attend meetings and assist in work bees or other tasks as determined by the committee.

Often, for specific projects within the jurisdiction of a particular committee, a sub-committee will form. Examples of such sub-committees include the Parent Participation Committee (which was formed from the PEC). Additionally, the Parent Support Group is a sub committee of the Parent’s Association. The Parent Support Group applies for funding from the government, and then discusses how to use this funding toward the school.
